The end of dogma: NY Times article

OK composition students - here is a thought-provoking article from the NY Times on the current state of new music:

The end of dogma

I would like all of you to read this and consider the implications of how this is shaping the new music community. How do you see this impacting California music, as opposed to the scene in New York? How do you see this impacting your own musical style and approach?

  1. I believe that musical aethetics are an important factor in composing new music. I'm not sure how this will impact the scene in California. Perhaps as a result youger audiences may crave more expansive musical experiences. I believe as the aticle mentioned that an alternative classical, one that embraces pop music: jazz, hip hop, electronic etc; is happening and I myself hear some of these influnces in my music.
